Wheelers Accountants are a long-established firm of Chartered Accountants and Tax Consultants based in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. The practice provides a full range of accountancy services including audit, payroll, bookkeeping, company secretarial, valuations, and tax advisory support.
They have been running since 1941, and started being supported by ECS in 2016.
We spoke to Helen Garrett (Partner) to discuss Wheelers experience with ECS over the years and how we have helped.
Client Overview
Wheelers Accountants are a long-established firm of Chartered Accountants and Tax Consultants based in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. They provide a full accountancy service including audit, payroll and bookkeeping support, company secretarial work, valuations, and tax advisory services.
Challenge
“We felt our former providers were no longer proactive with advice and were slow to respond on support questions,” says Helen, Partner at Wheelers Accountants. The firm needed an IT partner who understood the pressures of a professional practice and could deliver fast, proactive, and reliable support.
Why ECS Computers
“ECS came on recommendation,” explains Helen. “I was also aware of them because of their long-standing office in King’s Lynn. Peter came to see us quickly after we contacted ECS.” That quick and personal response made ECS an obvious choice for Wheeler’s next IT provider.
The Experience
“It’s very easy. We are always able to get quick, efficient support,” says Helen. When asked how long they usually wait for assistance, she adds, “Usually immediate.”
The team has also benefited from ECS’s Cyber Awareness Training Platform. “It’s very useful,” Helen says. “It has made staff much more aware of emails, particularly those that might not be legitimate.”
To further strengthen their security, ECS implemented Managed Detection and Response with a 24/7 Security Operations Centre. “I think we feel that this is as much as we could possibly do to keep the Practice secure,” Helen explains.
ECS continues to maintain and update Wheeler’s key accountancy applications, including Sage and IRIS. “This is key to our business. Without these products we cannot work. IRIS is particularly difficult due to the nature of their support,” she notes.
Helen also appreciates ECS’s proactive communication about upcoming changes. “It’s useful to know these things in advance,” she says, referring to the early advice given on Windows 10 expiry and major server upgrades.
Results and Impact
“One of our senior members of staff was frequently interrupted with IT issues. This is no longer the case,” says Helen. “Everything, however small, is referred to ECS, which saves an awful lot of his time.”
Helen recalls several moments where ECS went above and beyond. “During COVID, when all staff went home, ECS were instrumental in making this happen,” she explains. “We also had a time when our internet was cut off by mistake by our phone company. ECS were excellent in helping us get some connection until the line was restored.”
Confidence and Recommendation
When asked how confident the firm now feels about their IT, Helen is clear: “Very confident. We have no concerns.”
“We would recommend ECS, as we often do to our clients, and we only do this with companies we trust,” she adds.
